Everything needs a revamp sometimes; new goals, new inspirations etc. North Dorset 7s is now in it's 6th year and one of the longest running regional 7s competition in the UK. When it was set up, it was to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young, in memory of Max Biles - NDRFC's rugby club captain who tragically passed away due to an underlying cardiac condition.
Since then the competition has grown to host more and more teams every year, including a women's competition. For a one day event we're now reached our maximum capacity for teams. So we're now focusing on our off-pitch elements. Both on the site, but also in the community. With ND7s being held at the beginning of the Summer holidays every year, we really do kick-start the summer. Going forward we intend to create, improve and develop our links with the community.
In doing so, we've created a Health & Wellbeing Zone on the site, which is almost totally unrelated to rugby! Sounds mad doesn't it...! But there is method behind the madness! This zone will host a number of healthy food traders, healthcare professionals, community groups and charities, a walk-up piano as well as a selection of inflatables and children's entertainment. This zone bring in the community, it involves them and it welcomes them. We hope that by introducing a formal Health & Wellbeing element to the event, that it will propel us into the next level of the 7s circuit. It should help create a buzzing atmosphere, and let people know that we aren't just a rugby event, we aren't a music festival, we are the people's festival.
We've also revamped our website, given it a few backroom tweaks. We've started this blog that will be about all things ND7s as well as other pieces on what's going on with our local area. Al headed up by our new marketing wiz - Alice! Out of all the feedback we receive, the simple fact that loads of people still don't know we exist staggered us, so in taking on Alice to push our marketing and advertising we hope to spread the word to more people!
We've come so far in 5 years, lets look forward to the next 5 years! Lets grow together, play rugby together and enjoy the summer.
